Meet the Dauenhauer Family of 8 from Texas! Dustin, DorothyAnne, Aidan (12), Aliyah (10), Daniel (8), Liam (5), Evan (2) and Avery (2mo). This Busy Family loves travel, baseball and shopping! Busy student Aidan is enjoying lessons and has even composed a song with his mom!

Q: What’s your musical background?

My husband grew up singing in his church choir, and I grew up singing in school choirs and church praise and worship teams. In college I took voice and piano lessons, and now I run my own online music business as the singer/songwriter of www.DorothyAnne.com.

Q: Anything fun or unique you’d like to share about your family?

We love to travel as a family. The boys enjoy playing baseball. My daughter and I fancy going shopping. My husband and I have a good time directing and producing dramas and podcasts. In 2004 we founded the non-profit organization DefiningMomentsTv.com where we help people develop their gifts and reach their potential.

Q: How do you structure piano lessons/practice for your family? Any tips to share?

Currently our four oldest children are taking the Busy Kids Do Piano (BKDP) course. As a homeschooling family, I’m pretty flexible, but I do ask each of them to either do a lesson or practice 15 minutes a day Monday through Friday. My biggest tips would be to expose children to all types of music and let them grow at their own individual pace.

Q: How did you learn about Busy Moms/Kids Do Piano?

Q: Do you have any stories you’d like to share about your musical journey with piano lessons?

Our oldest son had been taking private piano lessons for a couple years, but we wanted a cost effective solution to allow all the children to be able to take piano lessons and develop their love for music.

Since discovering the BKDP course, my eldest son and I co-wrote a song which we called “Together”, and we debuted it at our family Christmas party. Also, my 10 year daughter and 8 year old son have started composing their own pieces on the piano.

Q: What is your goal with having your child learn to play the piano?

My goal is to give my children a good foundation in piano and to help them excel in their musical pursuits.
