At Busy Kids Do Piano, one of the most common questions I hear from parents is, “How soon is too soon to start piano lessons?”
Meet Eric — our October Student of the Month — who is proof that it’s never too early to begin learning music. At just five years old, Eric’s story shows how a thoughtful program, a supportive family, and consistent practice can help even the youngest musicians thrive.
Starting the Journey
Eric’s family enrolled him in the Busy Kids Do Piano program after Eric started asking to learn piano. His mom reports that “the length of the videos are manageable for him, and the progression of the videos works well for his pace of learning.”

A Year of Progress
Fast forward one year later and his family shares this exciting update:
“Eric did not know a single note. He now plays melodies with two hands. At the end of the school semester, he took his keyboard to school and performed a small concert of everything he learned in front of his prep class.”
Imagine how proud he must have felt performing for his classmates — what an incredible confidence boost for a young musician!
Practice Tips from Eric’s Family
When we asked how they practice at home, Eric’s parents shared:
“I do not know how to play any instruments, but we watch the videos together and practice. For the last two months, we’ve played 10 minutes every day, and Eric gets a reward sticker for each day. After 7 stickers he gets a surprise.”
They also had this simple, wise advice for other families considering piano lessons:
“Make it consistent and make it fun.”
