Piano for 6 kids? See how this homeschool crew does it!

It’s time for October’s Member of the Month. I love to share with you about families who are a part of the Busy Kids Do Piano program. I feature families of all shapes and sizes and families who are using the program for various reasons. My hope is that eventually, you’d recognize your family’s unique needs in these stories and see how you too could benefit from the BKDP program.

Today, we’re meeting an amazing homeschooling family from New York where all SIX of the kids are learning piano through BKDP. Garrett (17), Lillian (14), Amalia, (12), Landon (10), Maeve (8), and Felicity (5) have only been a part of BKDP for a few months, but they are accessing the lessons several times a week and making the most of it!

Mom Danielle says she loves the Busy Kids membership because they can incorporate lessons into their own schedule and it’s budget friendly. Imagine what private piano lessons would cost for their whole family! They are also a medically vulnerable family; Danielle says the virtual option for music education is key for them. Here’s her input on motivation: “I played piano growing up and minored in music in college. Music and the arts should be a part of children’s education. We help our kids stay motivated by letting them learn and practice songs that they like, we also have mini family recitals periodically to share their skills.” Too bad I don’t live closer, Danielle, or I would want to be invited to those recitals!

Check out what the kids had to say (always my favorite part of these interviews):

What have you liked best from the program so far?

Learning piano basics and learning music theory from Miss Carly.

What advice would you give other kids who want to try the BKDP program?

Make sure you are consistent with it so that you can progress. Most lessons don’t take a lot of time but remembering to practice is important.

What do you enjoy besides piano? Any other fun facts you’d like to tell us?

Reading, Video Games, Playing with Barbies, Crocheting, Listening to Music, Drawing. We just got new kittens over the summer, they are sisters, and we named them Ginny & Luna.

Many, many thanks to these kids for their hard work and taking time out to share their thoughts with the rest of us! Kids, you are excellent Members of the Month!
